Hope North Uganda was founded in 1996 by Sam Okello, a prominent Ugandan artist and Artistic Director of the Ndere Center and is located near Bweyale which is 100km south of Gulu in northern Uganda.
Hope North Uganda provides secure accommodation, food, and through a Secondary School and Vocational Centre, the students receive schooling and training to help them reintegrate back into society.
The camp has little resources, but does have a bore hole, which provides water not only for Hope North Uganda but the local community as well. It provides a unique meeting point which facilitates communication between the children and the local community.
The students of Hope North Uganda, with the support the Réalta Global AIDS Foundation and two Ugandan artists, Fred Mutebi and Taga Nuwaguba, have produced these artworks which depict the dreams and hopes of these children.
