ATIC (The AIDS Treatment Information Centre)

The AIDS Treatment Information Centre (ATIC) is a free call in centre for healthcare professionals treating HIV/AIDS and is based at Mulago Hospital in Kampala. It was established in November 2003 by Réalta members in collaboration with the Academic Alliance FoundatioATICn for AIDS Care and Prevention with a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which funded it's initial 2 years of operation. ATIC receives and answers calls on any aspect of AIDS prevention and treatment from any healthworker. The vast majority of calls received are from Uganda, but it also responds to queries from other countries in sub-Saharan Africa and has even taken queries from the United States of America, Europe and India. ATIC is based at the Institute of Public Health of Makerere University and it's call-centre is located at the Institute of Infectious Diseases close by. Réalta staff continue to support ATIC locally providing day to day expertise, training, and direction.

ATIC also produces a quaterly Newsletter focused on practical matters relevant to the treatment and prevention of AIDS in Uganda and sub-Saharan, including updates on treatment, guidelines and alerts. It is free of charge and circulated widely. ATIC is currently expanding it's role in CME for healthcare workers in collaboration with the Infectious Diseases Institute in Makerere University.
