African Doctors In Ireland HIV Training Programme
One of the major impediments in delivering safe and effective HIV prevention and care programmes is a lack of appropriately trained healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, counsellors, pharmacists and laboratory technicians. Over the past 4 years Réalta staff have been involved in many HIV training programmes in countries as diverse as Uganda, South Africa, Senegal, Ireland, the U.S.A., Cote d'Ivore, and Nigeria. They have accumulated a wealth of experience in delivering targeted and culturally appropriate teaching to healthcare workers at the forefront of the fight against HIV/AIDS in settings with limited resources, esppecially in the area of HIV treatment. Realta collaborates with institutions throughout the world, especially those of sub-Saharan
Africa, in order to deliver up to date and useful information to enhance the healthcare workers capacity to deliver safe and effective care in extremely difficult and adverse circumstances.
Currently Réalta works predominantly with the Institute of Public Health, the Infectious Diseases Institute and the Department of Medicine in Makerere University, Kampala, the Joint Clinical Research Centre in Kampala and the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Réalta also runs comprehensive HIV/AIDS courses fordoctors from the developing world who are living and working in Ireland, as these doctors, no matter what their field of expertise, are likely to encounter HIV on an on-going basis during their careers once they have returned home. Réalta also offers courses in life-skills and career management for this same group to give them the tools neccesary to negotiate the Irish healthcare system and allow them to complete training and return home. Réalta has now teamed up with the Smurfit business school to deliver this popular programme. Click link for further details...
